Michael B. Stevens, MD, PhD, FACS is a nationally and internationally renowned plastic surgeon and noted educator known for his innovative techniques and dedication to maintaining a “cutting edge” plastic surgical practice. Dr. Stevens’ major expertise is in the field of aesthetic plastic surgery, and he specializes in both surgical and non-surgical methods to improve the appearance of the face, breasts and body. He is dedicated to providing accurate and insightful information to patients and the public to better help them make informed and educated choices and decisions regarding plastic surgery.

Dr. Stevens has been in practice at the Plastic Surgery and Laser Center in Visalia since 1990, and at the Obagi Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, and Laser Center in Beverly Hills, CA since 1995, where he partners with Dr. Zein E. Obagi, an internationally known dermatologist in the care of patients from all over the world. Dr. Stevens has been seen on TV, radio, and in national and international magazines and was one of the first plastic surgeons to have his own webpage, www.drstevens.com which has been listed in the Web Dominion Hall of Fame. The Consumers’ Research Council selected him as one of “America’s Top Plastic Surgeons” in 2008. His patients are from all walks of life and include entertainers, actresses, princesses, politicians, sports figures and other physicians and their families.

ASPS_logoDr. Stevens is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery since 1992. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and also the American Board of Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Stevens is well known for the introduction and early application of a variety of innovative techniques in plastic surgery to the Visalia-Fresno-Bakersfield areas including laser skin treatments and laser facial surgery, the Obagi Blue Peel, ZO Skin Health, minimal scar endoscopic surgery of the face and breast including the underarm approach to breast augmentation, tumescent and ultrasonic liposuction and microsurgical breast reconstruction. Dr. Stevens performs outpatient surgery in the comfort, privacy, and safety of Mill Creek Ambulatory Surgery Center in Visalia; a California state licensed and federally certified facility that he opened in 1995. He remains committed to bringing to his patients in the Central Valley the same modern, safe, and advanced level of plastic surgery care as available in major metropolitan cities.

Dr. Stevens has been invited to travel around the U.S. and the world to lecture and demonstrate advanced plastic surgical techniques to both physicians and the public. Dr. Stevens frequently shares his knowledge with the public by delivering free seminars. He has served as a consultant plastic surgeon to clinics, hospitals, and spas here in the USA, Spain, Saudi Arabia, UK (London), and several countries throughout Asia, Europe, and South America. He has been listed as a Leading Health Professional of the World. He is a volunteer with ISAPS-LEAP Surgical Relief Teams providing emergency care should the need arise. He is also interacting with the doctors of tomorrow as an advisor to medical students at the U.C.L.A. School of Medicine.

Dr. Stevens established the first comprehensive skin laser skin treatment clinic in the Central Valley of California in Visalia in 1992. Since that time, the Plastic Surgery Laser Center and CreekSide Laser Center has treated many thousands of patients for laser skin resurfacing, birthmarks, scars, burns, tattoo removal and pigmented lesion removal. With more than 10 different lasers on-site, the Laser Center can customize laser treatments to the needs of each individual patient and has the capability of providing definitive care for almost any problem amenable to laser treatment. Dr. Stevens is dedicated to improving our local communities and frequently donates to and sponsors deserving community organizations and events. In 1992, he developed and continues today a program for removal of gang tattoo markings from reformed ex-gang members from communities throughout the Central Valley in order to enhance their employability and reduce their return to gang activity. This program is performed at no charge to these patients or their communities and Dr. Stevens has donated services worth over $500,000 and has received numerous community awards in recognition of these ongoing efforts.

Dr. Stevens also established CreekSide Day Spa and Wellness Center, the first medically based day spa in the Visalia-Fresno-Bakersfield area and one of the first medical spas in the nation in 1996. CreekSide Day Spa continues today to provide clients and patients with frequent educational seminars, clinical treatments such as Botox, wrinkle fillers and laser treatments, and the best skin care, body and nail services in a pampering, comfortable environment.

Dr. Stevens grew-up in Visalia and attended Mt. Whitney High School in Visalia. He graduated from UCLA with Honors in Chemistry in1976 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. While at UCLA he performed research in molecular biology with Paul D. Boyer MD, who later won the Nobel Prize in Medicine. He then attended medical school at UCLA, where he graduated with the MD degree in 1980 and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, an honor reserved for the top graduating medical students. He served his internship and residency in general surgery at the University of California Hospitals in San Francisco from 1980-1987. He served as chief resident and clinical instructor in general surgery at UCSF in 1987-88. During his general surgical residency, he received a National Research Service Award from the National Institute for Health (NIH) and performed original research in the Cardiovascular Research Institute at UCSF from 1983-86.

Dr. Stevens was awarded a PhD in Anatomy from UCLA in 1986 based on his individual study and research in cardiovascular physiology. He is currently involved in ongoing research projects on facial skin responses to combined peels, laser treatments, and face-lifting, and also analysis of the results of his series of endoscopic breast augmentation procedures, one of the largest such series in the world. Dr. Stevens also serves on the physician advisory board of OMP, Inc., a company that manufactures pharmaceutical products for skin health restoration and rejuvenation and is on the teaching faculty for ZO Skin Health Inc., teaching physicians around the world the techniques of skin health restoration and skin resurfacing with chemical peels and lasers.

After completion of a full residency training program in general surgery, Dr. Stevens traveled to New York City to receive specialized training in plastic surgery. His advanced training in plastic surgery was in New York City at the world famous Institute for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at New York University (NYU) where he was a resident and clinical instructor in Plastic Surgery (1988-90). He trained at several well-known Manhattan hospitals under the instruction of some of the best known and most highly respected plastic surgeons in the world, who remain his friends, colleagues and mentors today.

Dr. Stevens is very proud of his three children whom are active as a chef, personal trainer and college student studying environmental sciences. Dr. Stevens enjoys an active outdoors lifestyle and has completed two Ironman triathlons, most recently in 2014.
